Hamid's journey in medicine began in Damascus, where his outstanding academic performance in high school culminated in his valedictorian graduation in 1989. He continued his education at Damascus University School of Medicine, receiving his MD in 1995, laying the groundwork for a career spanning continents and specialties.

Expanding Horizons in the United States


Upon completing his medical degree, Dr. Hamid moved to the United States to pursue further training, beginning with an internship at Mount Sinai University Services in New York City in 1996. His residency followed at West Virginia University, where he trained in internal medicine and neurology from 1997 to 2001. During his residency, he distinguished himself as a leader and was named Chief Resident in the Department of Neurology.

Specialization in Pain Medicine


With a growing interest in the complexities of pain management, Dr. Hamid pursued a fellowship in pain medicine at the University of Iowa's Department of Anesthesia, starting in 2002. This fellowship, which he completed in 2003, provided him with deep insights into the treatment of various pain disorders, including chronic and cancer-related pain.

Contributing to Academia and Clinical Practice


After completing his fellowship, Basem Hamid MD was appointed an Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. From 2003 to 2006, he was key in enhancing the institution's pain management program. He later joined the faculty at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pain Medicine, where he furthered his clinical and academic pursuits.
